Bluechiip Matchbox Reader & Retriever
The Bluechiip® Matchbox™ reader is an advanced tracking and monitoring technology designed to support biological sample lifecycle management in biobanks, repositories and other cryopreservation laboratories. The complete Bluechiip® solution includes tagging devices, the Matchbox™ reader and dedicated management software. Together these components deliver benchmark-level consistency, reliability, efficacy and robustness from the time of collection, through transport, processing storage and retrieval to final disposal — a “cradle to grave” approach.
Bluechiip’s innovative radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology was conceived and devised as a result of firsthand observation of disparities in current sample preservation, identification and retrieval practices. The importance of retrieving the correct sample every time, whilst minimising disturbances and prevention of unnecessary thaw cycles of frozen samples was a fundamental impetus for the system’s creation.
Flexible Design
The Matchbox™ Reader is used to track and record both sample identification and temperature enabling a chain of custody to be established. The reader comprises a web server together with a database that matches the Bluechiip® smart chiip against pre-recorded data related to the individual biosample. A graphical user interface at the front of the unit enables user interaction and information recording. The reader's design provides the flexibility to interact with all samples and storage items in a cryopreservation facility. The Retriever™ wand allows a user to identify a sample’s location before interrupting the thermal stability of the sample itself and that of the surrounding samples.
