Enovis (U.S.A. + Switzerland): Transforming patient care - Technologies that enable active lifestyles.
Everything went smoothly. The team initially had concerns that assembly would be complicated, but they were pleasantly surprised by the “simplicity” of the assembly and the reduced number of parts compared to existing devices. This gave them confidence for the future. The feedback was positive, with no changes requested. I made sure to note that the successful build was a direct result of D+I’s know-how in developing medical devices.

Cresstec: REED™ (Regulating Energy Efficiency Device)is a revolutionary energy saving and leak mitigating technology developed for commercial HVAC-R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) systems. REED™ was designed around the second law of thermal dynamics utilising normally wasted energy to improve system efficiency whilst eliminating refrigerant leaks. A sustainable technology that can significantly reduce emissions.
Working with D + I on our project has been a simple and professional solution to the commercialisation of our new regulating energy efficiency device (REED). As this is our first clean sheet product to market, we have experienced a steep learning curve however D + I understood this and have guided us, taking us from our engineering prototype through to MVP and finally our production ready commercial design. They assisted us in assuring we were meeting market expectations in function and form and designing the product to our brief, including direction with brand development. D + I have turned out to be a very versatile solution with a broad skill set offering. We have multiple other clean sheet products to bring to market and we look forward to working with Murray and the team at D + I for our designs.

On 31 st October 2014, I was on a flight from Melbourne to Sydney when I watched James
Cameron’s Deepsea Challenge 3D, documenting a record-breaking journey to Earth's lowest
point, nearly seven miles deep to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean . As
we were also at the beginning of our journey, I thought that if D+I was successful in the
development of the submarine for this record-breaking adventure, they would be a perfect
partner for Inventia to develop RASTRUM, the world’s most advanced 3D bioprinting
platform.
I called D+I the next day and met with their team in Balmain the following week. Their
reception was very welcoming and approachable. After the first meeting, we knew we had
found the right partner for our own challenging project. In the same way that James
Cameron needed a partner that was innovative and creative, we were embarking on a
project to develop something totally new but required the best possible quality.
D+I worked seamlessly with Inventia through the entire RASTRUM product development,
from proof-of-concept to commercialisation. The success of the RASTRUM platform would
not have been achieved without the creativity, talent and hard work of the D+I team.
We have worked closely with D+I for over 2 years. We are very pleased with their work and
they continue to meet the brief with their original and innovative design solutions. I am
confident we will continue to work with them on current and future projects.

Cochlear Limited: Cochlear is a leader in implantable hearing devices that help to restore hearing and connect people to a world of sound.
The Aqua+ has been a huge commercial success for us, but more importantly, it’s helped bring the gift of sound to our recipients in all environments. Working with the talented team at Design + Industry on the Aqua+ was a great experience. The team quickly got their heads around the brief and were able to provide us with solid design concepts and prototypes we could test with our users. By also keeping manufacturability as a focus throughout the process, we were able to quickly commercialise the product once a design was selected.

Ocean Guardian (Shark Shield): Ocean Guardian products, powered by Shark Shield Technology, are the world’s only
scientifically proven and independently tested electrical shark deterrents. Government
approved and developed over two decades of research, Ocean Guardian’s patented technology
creates a powerful three-dimensional electrical field which causes safe but unbearable
spasms in shark’s short-range electrical receptors, turning sharks away - including Great
Whites. Nothing is more effective.
Ocean Guardian engaged Design & Industry as a partner for the development of a world first
handheld personal shark deterrent device. The project involved developing initial product
concepts based purely on an idea, the company had no working models or concepts.
We need a product which firstly was functional, ergonomically effective and as its target
market was consumer divers and snorkelers it needed to be aesthetically pleasing to the
target market, as was being cost effective to manufacture. Design & Industry exceeded
expectations on all aspects of the innovation and design specifications.
The team assigned to our project were all highly competent, innovative with their approach
and easy to work with, and had a broad range of skills and experience. All aspects of product
development were covered, from creative genius, to engineering excellence, to manufacturing
knowledge.
As always, our development schedule was very ambitious, and Design & Industry’s staff took
every milestone onboard, managed the process very effectively, and delivered. Ocean
Guardian always felt like we were the most important customer.
Ocean Guardian is extremely satisfied with the D&I product innovation and development
process, and especially the outcome. We would have no hesitation in recommending Design &

OBJ Limited: OBJ is a transdermal (through the skin) ingredient delivery specialist that focuses on
innovations in skincare, haircare and pharmaceutical product performance.
OBJ created the Magnetic Microarray Technology that provided a tuneable force that
capable of physically drive ingredient molecules from a formulation and deeper into the
skin, hair or blood stream. The application of weak atomic forces as a means of improving topical product
performance seems logical to those who may have studied University physics, but the
concept overwhelmed Brand Managers and Consumers alike.
For these reasons, we sought the help of D+I as we felt that the real challenge was not the
science, but finding a communications methodology involving high quality virtual
imagery, beautifully finished prototypes and suitable brandings.
With D+I’s assistance we developed an entire Visual Brand Architecture that made the
science approachable, stylish and aspirational.
The first major International Brand to pick up on this was SK-II, Proctor and Gamble’s
Premium Skin Care brands from Japan. We launched SK-II’s first D+I designed product
in 2014. The second and third products built upon that initial design language have gone
from strength to strength.
One of D+I’s more recent designs captured the Best New products award from Vogue
Japan.
Our experience with D+I has been a very good one that we plan to keep building on that
relationship as we expand our technologies and grow into new markets.

Acheron Project / Deepsea Challenger Pilot Sphere: On March 26, 2012, National Geographic Explorer James Cameron made a record-breaking solo dive to the Earth's deepest point (10,900 m) - The Mariana Trench.
On March 26th 2012, underwater explorer and film director James Cameron piloted the
Deepsea Challenger submersible to the deepest spot in the world’s ocean – 10,900m in
the Marianas Trench.
Design + Industry were approached by the Acheron team to help design, build and install
the pilot Sphere for the submersible. As Project Manager for Sub Internals, I worked very
closely with Design and Industry throughout the project.
The Internal Pilot Sphere consists of several integrated systems that allow the sub to be
operated and to keep the pilot alive and comfortable throughout the dive. The design brief
was to fit 140 complex operating systems inside 43’ diameter sphere – a space equivalent
to an average sized fridge.
Design + Industry surpassed all expectations and delivered a system that functioned
perfectly on every dive. It has been generally accepted (by Woods Hole and other major
Oceanographic Institutions) that the pilot sphere sets a new standard in the submersible
industry. Throughout the entire process, from consultation to final installation, the Design +
Industry team could not have been more helpful, enthusiastic and professional. The contribution
they made to the safety and comfort of the pilot sphere was a major factor in the
mission’s overall success. I cannot recommend Design + Industry highly enough. Everyone
at Acheron is extremely grateful and proud of their involvement.

IPS Group: The IPS Group is a manufacturer of telecommunication and electronic parking meter products
since 1994. The company was awarded the Fastest Growing Technology Company
award by De Loitte and Touche in 2001.
IPS identified a market opportunity for a high technology Single Space Parking Meter in
the USA. The United States has 5 million single parking meters still installed in the streets
of the cities but these parking meters can only accept payment with coins and stored value
cards.
The concept was to design a Single Space Meter that would be wirelessly connected to
the internet and which would be able to accept multi payment options including online
credit card payment. The challenge was to design this product small enough and power
efficient enough to be able to be retrofitted into the existing single space meter housings in
the USA.
The mechanical design was incredibly difficult and we engaged Design+Industry to work
on this aspect of the project for us.
Design+Industry worked on the project from concept to final production and have been
without a doubt the most skilful design company we have ever worked with. They have
done 3D designs, simulations, SLA samples, space constraint drawings for the electronic
components and have liased with Chinese suppliers with regards to the tool designs and
the manufacture of the components.
We have launched the product in the USA and the response has been fantastic. The
product has been rated as the most innovative to have been launched in decades and has
been featured in Modern Marvels on the History Channel.
We intend to continue our relationship with Design+Industry as we have a number of new
products that they will design for IPS.
Design+Industry is a world class company and we would have no hesitation in recommending
them to anyone.

Sykes: Sykes was established in Australia in 1967 to service the growing Australian mining and construction
industries. Sykes Group is now one of the largest auto prime pump manufacturers in the world. We take
great pride in offering our customers a total equipment solution to a variety of industries and a spectrum of
applications.
Sykes Group realised that there was a critical need for an acoustic barrier for a pumpset, which was
individual and stylish in design, but provided our customers with the functionality and efficiency which they
have become accustomed to.
We provided Design + Industry with our criteria for this project and were pleasantly surprised when they
went over and above our expectations and provided us with a number of different concept options – all
which met our needs. Although aesthetics were the main reason we contracted Design + Industry they
always made sure functionality was a prime consideration. This is something we have found in the past
can be difficult; however they were extremely flexible and open to the modifications and enhancements we
requested.
From a project management perspective, Design + Industry, provided us with very clear lines of communication
and access to all areas of expertise. At each point of contact with the company we were given their
full attention and made to feel like we were their only client (even though we knew we weren’t!). They were
happy to come to our offices for meetings, or alternatively when we visited their offices, we were made to
feel enormously welcome and were impressed with their organisation. It is this effective customer relationship
management that made the process itself easy and enjoyable.
The final result was the YAKKA - a compact, trailer-mounted auto prime pump system designed specifically
for the rental, municipal and construction industries. The system, or module, is comprised of a main
chassis and a rotationally moulded enclosure with integral roll cage, which serves as both an acoustic
barrier and as a means to protect the module from vandalism and extreme environmental conditions. The
enclosure design was developed to enable easy access for maintenance and can be simply removed as a
sub-assembly by hoist for servicing.
Sykes Group has benefited both financially and by reputation due to the final product Design + Industry
provided us with. The YAKKA won the Australian Design Award in 2007, a testimonial of its own for
Design + Industry! We are now looking into increasing our capacity to manufacture the YAKKA due to
its enormous success in the marketplace. As well as thriving in Australian markets, the YAKKA also has
international appeal, which has lead to an increase in our export success.
The Yakka is now a market leader worldwide with the combined features of excellent pump performance
whilst achieving significant levels of noise reduction. We have been more than satisfied with the product
Design + Industry provided us with, and were please with the entire process. This said, we would have
no hesitation in recommending Design + Industry to other companies, and indeed they would be our only
choice if a similar project was to arise in the future.

AmTote Australasia: AmTote Australasia has for 24 years, developed hardware
and software for Australian TAB’s and some overseas customers. We have specialised in
meeting the specifications of our customers leading to development of total and very different
solutions for each State. The nature of the totalisator industry has necessitated our
development of hardware involving mechanical engineering of motorised transports with
optical and electrical integration.
With Design + Industry’s help we have developed products that are both functional and
stylish, resulting in our company maintaining its position as the major supplier to TAB’s in
Australia.
“Industrial design” as it is called in this country, is not just about making the product look
stylish. It means the designers being involved from inception, working through design
of components, form and function, culminating in structuring the product for access and
service.
Over the years Design + Industry has designed numerous terminals for AmTote. The
relationship that has developed between the staff of both companies is virtually seamless
and we at AmTote feel that we are working with our own designers. Product development is
interactive with open discussion and sharing of ideas, ultimately resulting in equipment that
has met the longevity test required by our customers.

Albion: Albion has been the international leader in cricket helmet development for more than a
quarter of a century. Albion supplies the majority of cricket helmets to the world’s leading
international and first class cricket teams, including the current world champions, Australia.
Taking helmet design to a new level, Albion engaged the services of Murray Hunter and
the D+I team with the objective to create a sports helmet that could be customised to adapt
to many sporting disciplines, ranging from cricket to equestrian to extreme sports. The D+I
team were able to deliver a helmet that would appeal to a cross section of markets and be
the world’s best.
From the outset of the project D+I took a team approach, working with members of various
Albion departments and in close consultation with international elite cricketers to gain
feedback on design concepts. A true test of quality of the design was demonstrated in
the creation of the articulated fitting system which significantly improved ergonomics and
overall comfort. This was an important feature for professional cricketers.
D+I understood the need for the helmet to be customised to suit the needs of different
teams. The combination of materials such as plastic and fabric paneling allows the helmet
to be easily configured to suit the teams playing colours and emblems.
D+I must be praised for achieving all the requirements of this complex project. The NXT
Helmet is now the launch pad for adapting the design to other sporting applications such
as equestrian and extreme sports. These future application development processes can
now be rolled out with ease. This is not an easy task considering the spectrum of requirement
of the various sports.
At all times D+I were enthusiastic, creative and displayed a “can do “attitude to all parts of
the project. Winning an Australian International Design Award in 2008 for the NXT Helmet
only reinforces D+I’s capability. I have no hesitation in recommending D+I to any future
company contemplating engaging their design services.

Chattanooga Group: Encore Medical Corporation (ENMC) is a manufacturer of orthopedic and rehabilitation
equipment in the United States. In 2003 it had sales revenues of approximately $110 million.
Encore Medical Corporation’s Chattanooga Group division engaged Design + Industry of
Sydney, Australia to develop a new line of electrotherapy and ultrasound equipment approximately
four years ago.
Chattanooga Group’s objective was to create a product range, which would allow the
company to compete in markets outside of the United States. Chattanooga Group previously
had strong market share in the United States but almost no share of the $80 million
international market. This lack of market share was caused by appe arance and function of
the existing products not being up to international standards. Design+Industry was selected
for the project due to their ability to create a world-class design that we felt would be appropriate
for all markets throughout the world. It was our belief that a high-quality Australian
design firm, such as Design+Industry, could accomplish this objective. Our impression has
been that their design skills have been influenced by several areas of the world including
the United States, Asia and Europe. Additionally, it was our belief that Design+Industry
could also help us source the final product in Asia.
This project was the single largest design project Chattanooga Group has ever undertaken.
It involved expenditures of close to $2 million and the active participation of 50 individuals in
the U.S. as well as the Design+ Industry team in Australia. The product line being developed
was quite large with many different models and sizes in both domestic and international
versions.
Design+Industry did a fabulous job of driving the project from concept to launch. Initially
they made concept drawings, then colour renderings, models, detailed drawings, preproduction
samples and finally, fully tooled production units.
Design+Industry made several trips to the U.S. at predetermined times and extensively
utlized the Internet to communicate daily progress. Performance to budget was communicated
in detailed monthly statements.
Chattanooga Group and Encore Medical Corporation have been delighted by the service
and attention to detail that was received from Design+Industry. We started this project hoping
to get a good solid product, which would generate additional sales in the international
markets. We ended up with a product line, which is undoubtedly, and obviously the best of
its type in the world. Initial sales indicate a quick payback and a very bright future for Chattanooga
Group in the world electrotherapy and ultrasound markets.

Ingenico (EFTPOS Terminals): Ingenico was founded in 1980 and has expanded to become the worldwide leader in secure
credit/debit transaction equipment. The Ingenico headquarters are located in France and the
company employees close to 2,000 people, with a presence in every continent, managing 20
subsidiaries and working with 300 distributors around the world. Today the Ingenico Group has
some 7.5million payment terminals annually, with worldwide total sales in the region of US$450
million each year.
Design+Industry started working for the Group in 1987 and has designed and engineered many
products for Ingenico during this 15 year relationship. The products designed by D+I for the Ingenico
Group have been sold worldwide and have attributed to the ongoing global expansion of
the PX 318 and the PX 328 PINpad product ranges, along with the two generations of the NPT
terminals, which have been the worlds smallest hand held payment terminal for many years.
As the Ingenico Group has expanded, global design policies have been established to standardise
the product lines and ensure market leadership is sustained worldwide in terms of
aesthetics, operability, design postponement and manufacturability. To support the implementation
of these policies, D+I has been exclusively appointed to create the unique Ingenico image
for all our current ranges of global products.
Our 15 year working relationship with D+I has been extremely successful and in the time,
Ingenico has risen to a position of global leadership in the payment terminals market place. In
each instance, D+I has truly proven their ability to work effortlessly with each of our R&D groups
throughout the world, giving us real market definition in terms of design and image and in turn
contributing to our current market leadership position.
D+I has always continued to perform under tight development constraints, meeting the demands
for high volume, low cost production in critical project lead-times. They have engineered
our products and managed production tooling undertaken in China, from which plastic parts are
supplied to the group worldwide.
The length of the relationship is a direct reflection of the ability D+I to grow with Ingenico and
consistently supply globally competitive product solutions to the group.
