LEGRAND® BOLT
Design for manufacture + commercially competitive outcomes.
Legrand® Australia challenged D+I to undertake the design + mechanical development of the next generation of LED Exit Signs. The next generation required a reduction in dimensions, volume of plastics + mechanical parts and a simplified the assembly process. In addition, the vision for BOLT called for the development of a unique + superior optical solution to optimise light dispersion (24m view distance). Greater illumination would minimise supporting emergency lighting points, in turn reducing ongoing consumables + maintenance costs for building owners + operators. To meet market demand BOLT required ‘Standalone’ and ‘Networked’ modes — with networked mode connecting BOLT to Legrand’s Galaxy Connected Emergency Lighting System. Striking styling is critical to customer preferences when selecting commercial assets required to meet regulatory requirements. Legrand needed an aesthetic slim + discrete minimalist design to align with contemporary architectural trends and consumer expectations.
Superior Performance.
Commercially competitive outcomes.
Legrand's decision to combine internal team experience with external industrial design for manufacture expertise has resulted in several considerable positive commercial outcomes. D+I was able to reduce the size of the sign unit — reducing visual bulk and saving plastics. Plastics and number of mechanical parts were reduced by 30%. This led to significant cost savings in fewer parts, faster assembly times and reduced shipping size + weight. BOLT can be ceiling or wall mounted. Installation is simple with snap-fit brackets enable fast installation and access for maintenance whilst maintaining a sleek + minimal design (retrofit slide installation model available). Electronics have been designed and optimised to lengthen the life of the battery, further reducing maintenance costs (parts + labour).
