Soterius Scout: A passive biosensor that will detect exposure to COVID-19 in near real-time.
SOTERIUS SCOUT
Soterius Scout is a passive biosensor that will detect exposure to COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses in near real-time.
Soterius Scout: An instant COVID-19 sensor made in Australia could help transform day-to-day management of the pandemic, protecting frontline workers and the wider community. Soterius Scout delivers results within a minute to provide the all-clear for someone to enter their work environment or alert them if they need to undertake a medical COVID test and self-isolate. Soterius Scout is a passive biosensor that will detect exposure to COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses in near real-time. The Scout can be worn as a fob, or attached as a fixture within a workspace. It detects virus particles landing on its sensor, and communicates this result to a smartphone or a reader which users swipe as they enter or exit areas. If exposure is detected, the user can be directed immediately to testing and quarantine.
““We hope the Soterius Scout biosensor could be a vital tool for managing COVID-19, providing accurate early detection to prevent outbreaks and avoid the need for future lockdowns... As the recent lockdowns across Australia show, COVID-19 is not going away any time soon and we need smart solutions to help us detect the virus and contain outbreaks..”
- Professor Sharath Sriram (RMIT Project Leader)
Reliable, accurate and non-invasive, Scout is being further developed by Soterius Au in partnership with RMIT University, MIP Diagnostics, Burnet Institute, D+I and VESTECH // Medical Device Innovation, towards commercial release early 2022.
