RØDE Wireless Link
As a modern Australian success story, RØDE Microphones demands excellence in all areas of audio product development.
In our first collaboration with RØDE, D+I were tasked with the conceptual development and production-ready engineering of the RØDELink wireless audio platform, a fully-digitised pair of transmitter and receiver devices that provide uncompromising audio recording quality for filmmakers.
Built to last.
D+I worked collaboratively with multiple design and engineering teams at RØDE to develop a robust, easy-to-use system that would meet the demands of in-field use. The belt-pack worn transmitter features a simple 3-stage gain adjustment and a mute lock function to prevent accidental muting. A locking 3.5 mm audio connector ensures body-worn microphones remain secure.
The camera-mount receiver features a removable shoe mount enabling it to be used on-camera or as a belt-pack receiver. A high contrast OLED display provides a clear, crisp user interface while AA batteries provide 10 hours usage (or continuous power can be sourced using the micro USB connection) and a wireless range in excess of 100 metres.
Tight time frames.
To meet the technical requirements of a system as feature-rich as RØDELink, D+I applied meticulous detail across a wide range of materials and high-volume manufacturing processes, including thin-wall injection molding, overmolding, insert molding, paint finishing, and ultrasonic welding.
Despite a heavily compressed time frame of four months, D+I enabled RØDE to meet its product launch target on time and on budget. Following the D+I design process of collaborative review, continuous prototyping, and detailed liaison with developers and manufacturers, RØDELink is now meeting volume orders and has been met with wide acclaim from the market.
