Sykes YAKKA

Widely considered to be the world’s most versatile pump.

Sykes was established in Australian in 1967 to service the growing Australian Mining and Construction industries. Sykes takes great pride in offering customers a total equipment solution to a variety of industries and spectrum of applications. Sykes realised that there was a critical need for an acoustic barrier pump set, which was individual and stylish in design, but provided customers with the functionality and efficiency required for the job. Sykes approached D+I to undertake the design and development of YAKKA with a focus on reconciling a balance of aesthetics, improved acoustics and superior pump performance.

Ruggedized Design.

Quality accreditation ISO9001. You haven’t made it until… you own a Sykes.

The result of the collaboration is a market leading, compact, trailer mounted auto prime pump system designed specifically for the rental municipal and construction industries. The system, or module, is comprised of a main chassis and a rotationally moulded enclosure with integral roll cage, which serves as both an acoustic barrier and as a means to protect the module from vandalism and extreme environmental conditions. The enclosure design was developed to enable easy access for maintenance and be simply removed as a sub-assembly by hoist for servicing. The development of YAKKA has yielded a thriving Australian market share for Sykes, and has increased international appeal, which has lead to an increase in Sykes export success. YAKKA is now a market leader worldwide with the combined features of excellence pump performance whilst achieving significant levels of noise reduction + packaged in a strikingly ruggedized design aesthetic.

Client Testimonial.

Sykes has benefited both financially and by reputation due to the final product Design + Industry provided. We provided D+I with our criteria for the project and were pleasantly surprised when they went over + above expectations, providing a number of different concept options — all which met out needs. Although aesthetics were the main reason we contracted D+I — they always made sure functionality was a prime consideration. This is something we have found in the past can be difficult; however the team were extremely flexible + open to the modifications + enhancements requested. From a project management perspective, D+I, provided us with clear lines of communication and access to all areas of expertise. It is this effective customer relationship management that made the process itself easy + enjoyable. This said, we would have no hesitation in recommending D+I to other companies, and indeed they would be our only choice if a similar project was to arise in the future.
