Zip HydroTap Arc Plus & Cube Plus

HydroTap Arc Plus & Cube Plus is the redesign of the Arc & Cube taps that deliver instant filtered boiling, chilled, and sparkling water. The new design includes the addition of an aerator hidden inside the newly designed flared spout that enhances sparkling and chilled water delivery, addressing key pain points identified in customer research initiatives.

Filtered sparkling water on tap represents a growing proportion of HydroTap sales- Over 60% for Residential. Sparkling water functionality is a positive driver of HydroTap recommendations but not all consumers have a good experience. The challenge was based around a key question - How do we improve the HydroTap Arc & Cube sparkling water delivery experience so that it addresses the identified customer pain points while elevating the design aesthetics? To design the right solution, we first had to identify the factors that were affecting HydroTap Arc & Cube taps sparkling water delivery.

D+I collaborated with Zip’s multi-functional teams across Australian and the United Kingdom to review all aspects of the tap design, functionality, and installation. Significant amounts of testing, root-cause analysis, and trials were conducted to identify the specific drivers of the issues customers were experiencing and to identify the most effective solutions. Hoses were upgraded from a ‘D’ shape to round cross-sectional, minimising the impact/friction on bubbles flowing through the tap and an aerator was added in the outlet spout resulting in a beautiful lumina flow and enhanced sparkling water quality. HydroTap Arc Plus & Cube Plus have been re-designed to fit the aerator and round hoses in the outlet spout, the Arc and Cube design language has been enhanced through flared spouts, fix heights, and handles that work to achieve a more balanced and modern aesthetic.
